CUPRA KIRO receives renewed FIA Three-Star Environmental Accreditation
CUPRA KIRO celebrates Earth Day with renewal of best practice FIA Three-Star Environmental Accreditation rating
CUPRA KIRO is delighted to announce the renewal of its prestigious Three-Star Environmental Accreditation from motorsport’s governing body, the FIA, reaffirming the team’s position at the forefront of sustainability in global motorsport.
The FIA’s Environmental Accreditation Programme provides a structured system for motorsport and mobility stakeholders to measure, enhance and accredit their environmental performance against a three-tiered framework, built around international environmental standards including ISO 14001, ISO 20121 and EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme).
CUPRA KIRO first achieved the programme’s Three-Star rating during the FIA Formula E World Championship’s second generation in 2021, with the latest renewal confirming the team’s continued adherence to best-in-class environmental practices.
The team’s sustainability strategy is driven by a comprehensive Environmental Management System (EMS) and the consistent implementation of initiatives designed to reduce environmental impact, including minimising air travel emissions, promoting sustainable commuting solutions, and reducing utilities usage at its Silverstone headquarters.
More broadly, CUPRA KIRO has embedded sustainability into its organisational culture by encouraging team members to adopt environmentally conscious practices while also aligning with strategic commercial partners including Reflo and AQUAME to reduce carbon emissions in the production and packaging of team apparel and the use of single-use plastic and paper cups on event for the 2025/26 season.
Russell O’Hagan, Team Principal, CUPRA KIRO
“As a professional racing team, we have a moral duty and responsibility to operate sustainably and play our part in protecting the environment. Since first achieving Three-Star Environmental Accreditation from the FIA in 2021, we’ve worked consistently to reduce our carbon emissions and minimise our overall environmental footprint year-on-year. By nature, motorsport will always be competitive, but at CUPRA KIRO, we believe that sustainable progress is something to be shared and celebrated. Every step forward, by every team, only serves to strengthen the wider Formula E ecosystem and has a direct baring on the championship’s collective impact globally. The renewal of our Three-Star Environmental Accreditation is a strong endorsement of the work we’ve done so far, and it only motivates us to continue improving our environmental practices as a team. I would like to thank the team for the incredible work behind the scenes to achieve and excel the requirements.”
Julia Pallé, Vice President of Sustainability, Formula E
"It is great to see CUPRA KIRO achieve this accreditation, which reflects the rigorous work they are doing behind the scenes. It is a testament to Formula E’s foundational mission. As the first sport certified on the BSI international standard Pathway to Net Zero, we continue to push the boundaries of what is possible, proving that high-performance elite sport and elite sustainability practices can, and must, coexist."
